THE BELGIAN CREW…AT LAST !

They sail together only once a year at the St-Barth Cata Cup. After seven editions, Belgian crew Patrick Demesmaeker and Olivier Gagliani finally take home the honors. According to other competitors, it was a well deserved victory : « They sailed very well at each and every race, and that’s saying something because there were high-calibre sailors in the top group », said Gurvan Bontemps, who finished 3rd overall with crew Benjamin Amiot.

The last day concluded with a race taking the sailors from St-Jean Bay to Fourchue under spinnaker, returning to Bœuf Island upwind to finish at the entrance of Petite Anse. The race was close right up until the end and the Belgian crew needed to make as little mistakes as possible to finish a top the overall ranking. Had Orion Martin and Charles Gaté scored 1 and the Belgian crew 4, the French would have won the St-Barth Cata Cup. « We are really happy. After seven editions, it was more than time we won! », said Olivier Gagliani. « The level of competition is very high and it’s always nice for us to measure up to racers that we have come to know very well over the years. »
