For this 8th edition of the St-Barth Cata Cup, we thought it would be fun to profile some racers. We star our serie with a newcomer : Sam Goodchild. Sam will be teaming with girlfriend Milena Schoenahl who has previously raced in the event with none other than Yvan Bourgon.
 

Sam, this is your first time at the St-Barth Cata Cup and by the way, the first time we have a sailor from the UK! How did you hear about the event?

I have heard about the event from a few places, but my girlfriend (and crew), who did it a few years ago, said how incredible it was so fortunately we got an entry!

 

What made you want to come to the Cata Cup?

What could be better than sailing such a cool class with so many boats in St-Barths? I didn't have to think for very long. I am new to the F18 and after 6 months I'm addicted !

 

Have you ever sailed side-by-side some of the racers attending the event?

I have raced against a few of them, but mostly in offshore races. So other than our first event (Raid des Corsaires) this will be the first time in small boats.

 

What are your sailing plans for the year ahead?

First is the Transat Jacques Vabre just before the St-Barth Cata Cup, then the transat and Caribbean season with Phaedo and the Sydney-Hobart with Maserati. I think that should keep me busy for the next few months :).
